About Reading Partners
Reading Partners is proud to partner with Tulsa Public Schools providing our high-quality literacy intervention program to address the Tulsa region’s significant achievement gap. Today, only one in four Oklahoma fourth graders is reading at a proficient level and 36% lack even basic literacy skills.
In 2012, Oklahoma passed the Reading Sufficiency Act, which requires schools to retain students who do not pass a reading test and do not meet other criteria for exemptions by the end of the third grade. Notably, Oklahoma fails to provide any funding for schools to identify students struggling with reading and to provide them with supports to get them back on track.
Tulsa, Oklahoma is Reading Partners ninth region. Our expansion is made possible by the generous funding from the George Kaiser Family Foundation. In our second year serving Tulsa students we have plans to reach 675 with 1,000 reading partners.
