Based on feedback from the community, we have a plan for 2018-2019 federal funds. We want to hear your thoughts on the plan.

Each year, federal funding helps Tulsa Public Schools to serve our most vulnerable students and families.

Based on feedback and input from teachers, school leaders, local tribal leaders, and community members, the district has developed a plan for how federal funds will support schools in 2018-2019. Funding from Title I, Title II, and Title IV will support us on our journey to Destination Excellence –by helping us to attract, develop, and retain a highly effective and empowered team; create powerful learning experiences for all; and cultivate safe, supportive and joyful school cultures.

Below, you will find details about our proposed use of federal funding, and we welcome you to share your feedback, questions, and ideas by contacting us at TPSgrants@tulsaschools.org.

Attract, develop, and retain a highly effective and empowered team:
  • To help our novice teachers be successful in their classrooms, we will use Title I, Title II, and Title IV dollars to support the following:
    • Hold a 5-day novice teacher induction for new teachers;
    • Fund 57 Instructional Mentor and Academic Coordinator positions;
    • Provide stipends for novice teachers to attend after-school and Saturday professional learning sessions; and
    • Purchase services and materials for professional learning opportunities.
Providing professional learning support to all TPS teachers with Title I, II, and IV dollars:
  • Host the 2019 #SummerEdTPS Conference providing teacher-designed and teacher-led professional learning to Tulsa educators;
  • Provide services and stipends for professional development in core content areas, including strategies for students with disabilities, English learners, and gifted and talented students, as well as diversity and equity in instructional practice;
  • Offer supports for teachers as they adapt to the Tulsa Way for Teaching and Learning; and
  • Support a robust recruitment effort to bring high-quality special education teachers to Tulsa.
Create powerful learning experiences for all by implementing an aligned PK-12 instructional program:
  • Foster student literacy and prevent summer learning loss by operating a district summer school program and providing summer take-home books;
  • Improve collaborative planning time for school teams by using Title I funds to create additional staff support roles; and
  • Ensure that site and district staff are able to effectively use technology in our schools and sites.
Cultivate safe, supportive, and joyful school cultures:
  • Continue our equity fellows program allowing educators to examine personal and organizational biases, policies, and practices, while taking action to improve student outcomes;
  • Address disparities in achievement and discipline in secondary schools by using Title I funds to provide additional instructional and behavior support positions;
  • Create four new positions focused on secondary student success and strengthening climate and culture;
  • Provide training to district and site staff on bullying, cultural responsiveness, school safety, and social emotional learning;
  • Facilitate family and community engagement including work with site parent facilitators and other family outreach efforts; and
  • Support students identified as homeless to stay on track to graduate with services such as tutoring, transportation, and providing uniforms.
